突然、この日がきてしまいました
AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM TREY 05.25.04
Last Friday night, I got together with Mike, Page and Fish to talk openly
about the strong feelings I've been having that Phish has run its course
and that we should end it now while it's still on a high note.
Once we started talking, it quickly became apparent that the other guys' feelings,
while not all the same as mine, were similar in many ways -- most importantly,
that we all love and respect Phish and the Phish audience far too much to stand by
and allow it to drag on beyond the point of vibrancy and health.
We don't want to become caricatures of ourselves, or worse yet, a nostalgia act.
By the end of the meeting, we realized that after almost twenty-one years together
we were faced with the opportunity to graciously step away in unison, as a group,
united in our friendship and our feelings of gratitude.
So Coventry will be the final Phish show.
We are proud and thrilled that it will be in our home state of Vermont.
We're also excited for the June and August shows, our last tour together.
For the sake of clarity, I should say that this is not like the hiatus,
which was our last attempt to revitalize ourselves.
We're done.
It's been an amazing and incredible journey.
We thank you all for the love and support that you've shown us.

先週の金曜日、僕はマイク、ペイジ、フィッシュと会って、僕がとても強く感じていること、
Phishはもう行き着くところまで行ってしまって、
まだ好調なうちに終止符を打った方がいいんじゃないかっていうことを腹を割って話し合った。
いったん話し合いを始めると、すぐに他のメンバーたちも、僕の意見と全く同じではないにしろ、
多くの点で僕と同じような気持ちでいるってことが分かった。
一番大切なことは、僕たちは全員Phish、そしてPhishのファン達を心から愛し、
とても大切に思っているということ、
だからこそこのままズルズルと下降線を辿っていくのを指をくわえてみているわけにはいかないんだ。
僕たちは僕たち自身の真似ごとをしたりするのは嫌だし、
何より昔のよき時代を懐かしむだけのバンドには成り下がりたくないと思っている。
話し合いが終わるまでに僕たちが実感したのは、２１年近くも一緒にやってきた今、
僕たちはお互いへの友情と感謝の気持ちを共有したままで、
バンドとして一団となって円満にステージから降りるチャンスを与えられているんだっていうことだった。
そういうことで、CoventryはPhishの最後のショーになる。
出身地のヴァーモント州で終わりを迎えられることを僕たちは誇りに思うし、
とても嬉しく思っているんだ。
そしてPhish最後のツアーとなる６月と８月のショーもとても楽しみにしている。
間違いのないように言っておくけど、
今回のは前回メンバーの充電をはかるために活動を中止したのとは意味が違う。
僕たちはもう来るところまできてしまったんだ。
とてつもなく素晴らしい旅だった。
今まで支えてきてくれてありがとう。

今朝の新聞にけっこう大きく出ています。
自分はPhishのことは全く知らないのですが、こちらでは人気バンドなんで大きく取り上げられていますよ。
そうですか、新聞にも出てますか。

モゲヲさんはどちらにお住まいなのでしょうか？
このバンドは東の果てのメイン州の国境近くの
飛行場でコンサートを開催すると
７万人のファンが集まっちゃうのですよ。
ヒット曲はないけど。
モゲヲさんは、シリコンバレーで働いているのです。西海岸ですね。
ギター弾きでバイクのりの陽気な方なのです。
