モニターレスeMacは登場しないという説
billpalmer.netによれば、噂系サイトで盛り上がっているモニターレスマックは登場しないだろうと。
コメントを読むと意外と説得力があります。

So tell me again how much desk space is going to be saved by ditching the eMac and instead offering the customer have an extra CPU box sitting next to a monitor that is itself as large as the eMac? |
$50のパーツがなくなれば、定価ベースで$300くらい値段が下がるのは納得いく話だけど、結局eMacのスペックでそれを実現して$500でeMacを売ったところで、いいことなんて今持っているPC用のモニターが使えるってことくらいです。アメリカではまだまだ安い日本人から見れば極悪品に近い17インチCRTもたくさんあるので、これをこの$500 eMacをつなげて使っても机の上にはこのかっこわるい前時代のCRTと超クールなヘッドレスeMacではなんかかっこ悪いし、結局今のeMacよりスペースを取ってしまうんじゃなにがいいの？と言い切っています。
確かにアップルが得意とするトータルでのデザイン(iMac G5とiPodを並べてたの覚えていますか）でのソリューションとしての売り方が出来ないと言うことは、魅力が半減ですなー。
それでも自分も含めたMac Geekな人々には魅力ある製品かもしれません。結構面白いと思うしほとんど外部モニターで使う自分にはそういうのもありかな思いますが、すでに自分はGeekですので世間の多くから比べるとかなり特殊です。そういう意味からトータルで考えるとそれほど魅力ある製品ではないのかも知れません。結局モニターを別で買う必要がありそこに$99の17インチモニターをつけて売っても、DELLと競争してSwitchユーザーを増やせるかは疑問ですね。
billpalmer.netによれば、eMacは今の構成のまま値段が下がって、多少のデザイン変更と新しいソフトウェアが入るくらいの変更だろうってことで、来週が楽しみですね。
