喫煙 or 禁煙とか、朝食付きにするか？など聞かれます。
ニューヨークと違ってお手軽なDELIとか近くになさそうなので、朝食は付けることにします。
あと、「駐車場に車を止めたいのだけれど」、と聞いてみます。
hotels.comのこのホテルの説明では、確かホテルのパーキングに車を止めるのは有料、って書いてありました。
フロント横を見ると、「パーキング：一晩$30」という看板が。高い！
しかし・・・返ってきた言葉は・・・FULL
えっ？満車？？じゃあ、車止められない？
あたふたと、聞いてみます。
M(私)「一晩$30って書いてあるじゃない。だめなの？」
F(フロント兄ちゃん)「いっぱいで空いてないよ」
M「でも、車で来たんだから、止められないと困る」
F「道沿いにいっぱいパーキングメーターがあるから、そこに止めて」
ホテルへ来る途中、確かにいっぱいパーキングメーターがありました。
でも、パーキングメータもいっぱいで空きなんてなかったような・・・

F「パーキングメータは、朝8時〜夕方6時しか動いていない」
今は夜9時前くらい・・・だめじゃん、動いてないじゃん・・
M「じゃあ、どこに止めればいいの？」
F「大丈夫。パーキングメーターはいっぱいあるよ」
M「でも、今は動いてないんだよね？」
F「そう。朝8時〜夕方6時しか動いていない」

とにかく、ホテルに車は止められない、ということは確実。
なので、まずチェックインし、荷物を置いてから、車を止めに行くことにしました。
既に、ホテル宿泊料は、クレジットカードで決済されています。
ですので、朝食をプラスした分を支払い、とにかく部屋へ。
本当なら、まずはのんびりするところですが、それどころではありません。
再び部屋を出発です。また、あせっています・・・
あとになってみれば、ここまで悩まなくてもなんとか止められるわけですが、
初日着いたばかりでなにもわかってないこのときは、ほんとにまいりましたよ。
あたかも英語でスムーズにやりとりしているかのようにも見受けられますが。
困りはてて私が拙い英語で「Ｈｏｗ ｃａｎ ｗｅ park…？」とか言うと（パーキングメーターは動いてないし、車をとめる場所はないし、私たち、車をどこにどうとめろっていうのぉ？、というつもりで）向こうがパーキングメーターの使い方がわからないと思ったらしく、ペニーのコインを差し出して、これを使うのですよと説明したり。
ちぐはぐで、もうパニック。
